K.M. Pohlkamp is an award-winning author who published her debut, Apricots and Wolfsbane with Filles Vertes Publishing in October 2017. She is a proud mother of two, a blessed wife to the love of her life, and a flight controller for NASA in Mission Control. Originally from Wisconsin, she now resides in Houston, Texas.
Every year in elementary school she had the opportunity to write, illustrate and “publish” a book for the school library. Even back then, she was drawn by the idea another person, in another place, could pick up her book and be influenced by her words on paper.
Her parents taught her to dream big. So when the local newspaper was looking for a freelance sports reporter, K.M. applied. A high school student was probably not what the editor had in mind, but she is grateful for his faith and open mindedness. Working at the Appleton Post-Crescent was her first professional writing experience.
However, K.M. has also had a passion for space exploration since grade school and was determined to work in Mission Control after attending Space Academy in seventh grade. At Iowa State University, she double majored to pursue both aerospace engineering and journalism. She went on to receive a master’s in aerospace engineering from Georgia Tech.
In her limited spare time, K.M. enjoys cake decorating, her weekly ballet class, and of course, writing. She has come a long way from those wallpaper and cardboard book covers, and looks forward to hearing the thoughts her stories invoke within others.

- When do you have time to write?
Thankfully my kids are still young and go to bed early. My husband is an avid runner so I also write during his long training runs at night. It is amazing how much progress can be made one hour at a time. I also believe a person finds time for the things they truly desire.

Without doubt: Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey

- What is your favorite television show?
The West Wing due to its witty dialogue. I am a fan of anything by Aaron Sorkin.
- What type of music do you listen to?
Mostly Christian and Broadway. My favorite shows are Ragtime, The Fantasticks and Little Women. I also love Amy Lee’s haunting vocals.
- Do you have any pets?
We have three cats: a female gray cat named Aurora who is a quintessential stuck-up cat, a lazy tan male named Boreas, and a pure white female who steals hearts named Capella. All three are rescue animals.
- What is your Hogwarts house?
Ravenclaw for sure.
